“Alcohol is no excuse for heinous racist abuse in 2020s Britain” – Voice of the Mirror

The vile language used by EastEnders actress Katie Jarvis when she snubs Michelle Antonio is unacceptable. Being drunk is no excuse and racism needs to be called out

It should certainly go without saying that racism has no place in 2020s Britain. But given what EastEnders actress Katie Jarvis said about Michelle Antonio, that message still doesn’t resonate with some people.

Her language was bad. The feeling behind it all the more.

Being drunk is no excuse, and as Michelle rightly points out, it’s a person’s true feelings that often surface after a few hits.

Jarvis claims she’s not a racist – but her behavior suggests otherwise. She deserved jail instead of the community punishment she got.

And Michelle is doing a public service today by telling us the devastating impact this heinous incident and subsequent court case had on her life.

Nobody should have to put up with that. And if telling their story makes others think twice before hurling racial slurs, then something good will come of it.

It started as a silly argument over a chair.

There are many such disputes across the country every day, and right and wrong are often a little blurred. Bringing in a person’s color is not.

It’s always unacceptable. Always wrong. And must always be called up and stamped.

Part of Jarvis’ rant had her declare, “I’m a celebrity.” Not in our book, you are not.

A true celebrity uses their profile’s privilege for good — not as a badge for tossing around dirty, gross, and hurtful language.

Fix it Sajid

It was right to ban mixed-sex wards in 2010 to protect patient dignity.

So it’s completely false that 12 years later since October there have been more than 13,000 incidents where men and women have had to share the same hospital room.

Under normal circumstances this would result in fines of £250 for each breach – but that has been suspended during the pandemic.

The last thing we want to see is the NHS running out of money. Lord knows it struggles with what little it has.

And of course we appreciate the pressure that hospitals are under. The choice between a mixed ward or no bed is not down to the overwhelmed staff.

But it’s Sajid Javid’s responsibility to handle this. He never tires of telling us how hard he is working to clear the NHS backlog.

The Minister of Health should now work a little harder to ensure that patients can be treated in the dignified conditions they deserve.

real honor

It was only fitting that the future King of England should be the one who personally bestowed her maiden dignity on the Queen of Fundraising.

Today we’re featuring podcaster Deborah James – whose Bowel Babe Fund has hit a staggering £6million – wearing the regalia that mean so much to her.

And you mean so much to us, Deborah.

The pride you have in your new honor is only as proud as the nation is proud of you.
