Alec Baldwin has been formally charged with manslaughter after filming the 2021 film Rust that resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The charges were formally filed by the Santa Fe County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.
In a statement, district attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said: “Today we took another important step in ensuring justice for Halyna Hutchins.
“In New Mexico, no one is above the law and justice will be served.”
Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed will be “alternatively charged” with two counts of manslaughter, meaning that the jury will decide not simply whether they are guilty but also according to the definition of involuntary manslaughter that they are guilty of. guilty, the DA’s office said earlier.
The first charge may be called involuntary manslaughter and requires proof of fundamental negligence.
The charge also includes a misdemeanor charge of negligent use of a firearm, which is likely to be consolidated as a matter of law.

Under New Mexico law, both counts are 4th degree felonies and carry a penalty of up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 (£4,000) fine.
