Your Facebook app has a special notification called Active Status.

This way you can see when your friends and contacts are online or have used the app recently.

But it also means they can see when you’re logged in and browsing Facebook.

It’s possible to turn this off, which can be a good idea.

After all, you don’t necessarily want nosy friends monitoring your Facebook habits.

But remember: if you turn it off, you also lose the ability to see when other people are online.

This applies to both Facebook and Facebook Messenger.

“You will not see when your friends and connections are active or recently active on this app,” Facebook explained.

“To ensure they can’t see this information about you, turn off this setting wherever you use Messenger or Facebook.

“And your active status will no longer be displayed.”

Facebook added: “You can continue to use our services when active status is disabled.”

How to disable active status on Facebook

Luckily, turning off your active status is extremely easy.

First, launch the Facebook app on your iPhone or Android.

Now tap More – the hamburger icon or three stacked lines.

Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy, then select Settings.

Now scroll down again and look for the section called Audience and Visibility.

Below you can see the active status.

Tap on it and then turn off active status to prevent friends from seeing your Facebook activity.
