All Russian government-funded Emmy submissions will be disqualified for 2022

All Russian government-funded submissions for the 2022 Emmy Awards have been disqualified, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced.

The organization that hosts the annual awards ceremony said it was “appalled” by the conflict in Ukraine and “in good conscience” could not do business with the Russian state-funded individuals.

Russian forces continue to invade the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and report more than 480 rockets fired in the invasion, according to a US defense official.

“NATAS, like countless individuals and organizations worldwide, is appalled by the unprecedented and unprovoked attack by Russia on the sovereign territory of Ukraine,” said NATAS Chairman Terry O’Reilly.

“As creators who depend on solid freedoms to illuminate stories that enlighten and impact the world around us, our members feel a deep connection with and concern for the Ukrainian people, whose freedoms are threatened by these hostile actions to become.

“In light of this military campaign condemned around the world and the corresponding economic sanctions subsequently imposed in response, NATAS has determined that we cannot, in good conscience, do business with any entity affiliated with or funded by the Russian government, including RT and RT America.

“All entries currently submitted for the NATAS-administered 2022 Emmy Award competitions falling under this provision have been disqualified.

“We join millions of voices around the world calling for a peaceful resolution to these hostile actions.”
