Allegation Amber Heard debunked borrowed lines from ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’ during Johnny Depp testimony

A claim Amber Heard took from the plot of The Talented Mr Ripley for her testimony in the Johnny Depp defamation trial has been disproved.

After delivering her second day of testimony in the ongoing trial on Thursday (May 5), the ‘Aquaman’ actress was accused of transcribing verbatim lines from director Anthony Minghella’s critically acclaimed film.

A popular social media claim claimed that Heard’s opening statement borrowed the plot from the 1999 psychological thriller starring Jude Law, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cate Blanchett.

A number of social media users shared screenshots purporting to compare Heard’s statement to lines from the film’s script. They claimed that Heard’s statement was almost verbatim with Gwyneth Paltrow’s character Marge Duval’s dialogue about Dickie (Law) in the film.

According to those unconfirmed social media posts, Heard had said, “When I was with Johnny, I felt like the most beautiful person in the world.

“You know, made me feel seen, made me feel… like a million bucks. It felt like a dream. It felt like, um, absolute magic and then he would be gone. And there was just no way to reach him, no way to contact him.”

But shortly after the rumors surfaced online, fact-checking website Snopes.com promptly debunked the rumor.

The online publication revealed that Heard could not have used the quotes from the film (which are real) because she “didn’t make any opening statement at all.”

In fact, her attorney delivered an opening statement on her behalf before she gave her statement.

“The allegation that Heard repeated these lines from The Talented Mr Ripley was presented on social media without any evidence,” the fact-check report said.

“Those making the allegation have not shared video of Heard making the alleged statement, nor have they linked to news articles containing that quote or a transcript of the trial that would support the allegation.”

The publication noted that it was suspicious that the social media posts making the allegations did not share video footage of Heard saying the words, as the trial is being streamed live.
