Almost half of drivers feel their engine represents their personality – many believe its colour, acceleration and sound system speak volumes about who they are as a person.

A survey of 2,000 drivers found that drivers of rugged SUVs are the most family-oriented – three in five (59%) of them say they “always” put their loved ones first.

Almost half (48%) of hatchback drivers consider themselves loyal and dependable, with just 5% of them saying they “live life in the fast lane”.

And 41% of station wagon owners proudly declare themselves to be organized.

In contrast, up to one in three (33%) drivers want to “go anywhere, anytime” behind the wheel of an SUV.

Almost a third of drivers say their dream car has “the latest technology”.

Of those who believe their car represents their personality, many think their vehicle says more about them than their job (20%), the way they dress (18%) and even their taste in music (17%).

And one in four (26%) have even chosen a vehicle that better suits their personality, rather than opting for something more practical.

The study was commissioned by Your Red Car, the online car marketplace operated by Santander, which also developed a quiz to ask drivers to ” car personality “.

Among other things, the quiz tells motorists whether they belong to the “Fiat 500 gang”, a child-centric “Volvo Viber” or rather to a “fast and furious Porsche driver”.

Denton Brock, director of Your Red Car, said: “A car can say volumes about you as a person and can often be an extension of who we are.

“For others, particularly with children, it can even be an extension of family – that’s why finding the right thing, both practical and aesthetic, that has such an important personality fit is so important.”

The study also found that two thirds of drivers (65%) do not yet own their dream car – but the top attributes for their ultimate vehicle are a luxurious interior (32%) or being painted in their favorite color (23%). .

However, 34% stated that what they wanted most of all from their dream car was “driving pleasure”.

And more than a third (35%) admitted that driving their dream car would mean reaching a major life milestone.

Of those who drive their perfect car, nearly three in five (57%) said it was “a pleasure to drive”, while 30% said it had “the latest technology”.

It also showed that when buying a used car, three in ten parents (29%) said their little ones influenced their purchasing decision.

While children were the most likely to want more space, one in ten (12%) admitted their child had convinced them to buy a particular vehicle because it was “cool”.

More than half of drivers surveyed via OnePoll are “proud” of the way their vehicle looks – they spend an average of two hours and 26 minutes tending to their engine each month.
