It said it will increase the price of Prime from £7.99 per month to £8.99 from 15th September for new customers or on the customer’s next renewal date.

Annual membership will increase from £79 to £95 per year in the UK.

A spokeswoman for the enterprise said: “Prime offers the very best in shopping and entertainment and continues to improve every year.

“We have increased the number of products available with fast, unlimited Prime Delivery, recently added ultra-fast fresh food delivery and have greatly expanded our high-quality digital entertainment, including TV, movies, music, games and books.

“With inflation on the rise and running costs continuing to rise in the UK, we will be changing the price Prime.”

This price increase is the first for Prime since 2014 and comes after another streaming service Netflix too, but increasing the prices of its subscriptions.

Prime video has invested huge wads of cash in original programs like The Boys, Reacher, Invincible, Goliath and the upcoming prequel series The Lord of the Rings.

The enterprise is also investing millions in sports rights after earlier this month securing the rights to show some Champions League games from 2024 and expanding its rights to 20 Premier League games per season. Amazon Prime Video subscription will be increased for UK viewers in September
