Amber Heard breaks down in tears as she recalls Johnny Depp’s alleged infraction

Amber Heard broke down in tears and struggled to finish her sentences during her testimony in a US defamation lawsuit as she described how Johnny Depp allegedly hurt her with a bottle.

The actress said Mr Depp held her by the throat and smashed glass at a property in Australia during a heated argument with her former partner in March 2015.

Mr Depp is suing the Aquaman star for defamation over a 2018 article she wrote in the Washington Post that his attorneys wrongly say physically and sexually abused her when they were together.

The actor has denied all allegations.

Ms Heard described the alleged 2015 incident on the second day of her testimony, telling jurors she landed on a countertop after a fight and she felt “pressure on my pubic bone”.

“I felt that pressure, I thought he was going to hit me. I saw his arm. I could feel his arm and it looked like he was hitting me,” she said, her voice breaking.

“I felt pain and pressure on my pubic bone.

“I don’t remember what I said, I just remember being really quiet…looking around the room, all the broken bottles, the broken glass.”

Ms Heard’s attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, asked the actress to clarify the graphic details of the alleged penetration, which she did.

“I was heartbroken (but) … the discomfort I felt afterwards paled in comparison to my fear and shock.”

The actress said Mr Depp also “ripped into pieces” a phone at the property, ripped out her nightgown and repeatedly yelled at her that he was going to “fuck kill her”.

Jurors heard Ms Heard discovered “incoherent” messages written in navy blue and brown paint and food smeared on the walls of the property the morning after the alleged incident.

She added that raw pieces of meat wrapped in a silk dress she owned had been hidden in various locations around the property.

“It was bizarre,” she said.

She later added that she was “devastated” by the incident and feared going home because Mr Depp might injure himself.

“I was concerned that we wouldn’t be able to come back from what had happened… that there was no way to reverse it,” she said.

In another incident, she said Mr Depp held her in a pillow and she feared she could die as she struggled to breathe.

The court was also shown several pictures of Ms Heard showing injuries she allegedly sustained during the violent altercations with Mr Depp.

She previously told the court about other instances of “disgusting” verbal and physical abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of the actor.

The court heard the relationship had become a “constant struggle” and that Mr Depp had particular issues with her professional relationship with actor James Franco, whom he “hated”.

They were also played audio clips of an incident on an airplane in May 2014, in which Ms Heard claims she was kicked in the back by the actor, who was so drunk he was “howling like an animal”.

Ms Heard took the witness stand for the first time on Wednesday and tearfully described other incidents of alleged violence, including one in which Mr Depp performed a “cavity search” on her.

On both days, Mr Depp failed to make eye contact with Ms Heard while she was giving evidence.

Outside the courthouse, hundreds of fans queued to get inside to see the trial, some had camped on the grounds overnight – contrary to a previous police order.

Trial in Fairfax County District Court will be adjourned for a week, after which Ms. Heard will be released on April 16.
