Amber Heard makes defiant statement ahead of $100m defamation lawsuit against Johnny Depp

Amber Heard has complained that she continues to pay the price for “speaking out against men in power” ahead of her trial against ex-husband Johnny Depp.

epp, 58, filed a $50 million lawsuit against Heard, 35, after she described herself as a victim of domestic violence in a 2018 column The Washington Post.

Although the actor’s name was not mentioned, he has argued that he was clearly the target of the article and his career was hurt as a result.

Heard has filed a $100 million countersuit, and the stage is set for another high-profile trial in which both parties will comment beginning Monday in Fairfax, Va.

Ahead of the trial, Heard told fans on Instagram, “I will be going offline for the next few weeks. As you may know, I will be in Virginia facing my ex-husband Johnny Depp in court.”

She continued, “Johnny is suing me over a comment I wrote The Washington Post, in which I shared my experiences of violence and domestic violence. I never named him but wrote about the price women pay when they speak out against men in power. I’m still paying that price, but hopefully once this case is closed I can move on and so can Johnny.

“I’ve always loved Johnny and it pains me to have to live out the details of our past life together in front of the whole world,” Heard said.

“At this point I recognize the continued support I have happily received over the years and in the coming weeks I will rely on it more than ever.”

It comes after Depp, who has always denied the allegations against him, lost a defamation lawsuit against the publisher of The sun in 2020 after an article related to his relationship with Heard called him a “wife beater.”
