As Amber Heard fights a $50 million defamation lawsuit with her ex-husband Johnny Depp, we take a look at how her closest confidants expressed their fears about marrying the actor and how they’re adjusting to family life after their divorce focused.
The 35-year-old actress is being sued by Johnny, 58, for defamation over an article she wrote in The Washington Post in 2018 in which she discussed her experiences of domestic violence.
While she didn’t name the actor in the article, Johnny’s attorneys say it incorrectly implied that Amber was physically and sexually abused by him when they were married.
Amber married Johnny in a civil ceremony in 2015, three years after they first began dating.

During Johnny’s defamation lawsuit against The Sun newspaper, Amber’s sister, Whitney Henriquez, testified and claimed she “begged” the Aquaman star not to marry Johnny.
Whitney said she liked the actor at first as he looked “very cute” but was concerned after Amber said they had “big fights”.
Amber’s sister claimed she became close to Johnny “like brother and sister,” with the actor calling her “Sis.”
But Whitney also testified that her sister’s relationship with the actor was “tumultuous from the start.”

She said: “At first I wasn’t aware of the violence, but I remember Amber speaking about them having big fights.”
She added she advised Amber not to go ahead with the wedding as “putting a ring on her finger wouldn’t stop him from hitting her.”
Johnny has denied ever being violent towards Amber.
During the trial, Whitney described Amber as one of her “best friends,” but also admitted they had become estranged in 2015 over a dispute over the couple’s wedding pictures.

She told the court she was living rent-free in one of Depp’s apartments but was told to leave after she was accused of selling wedding pictures to the press.
She said in court, “I had a fight with both of them.”
Henriquez denied being responsible for selling the paintings, but said her sister “believed it at the time.”
She said, “I was upset that she believed Johnny more than me, and there was a long period in 2015 that I was estranged from Amber and Johnny because of that.”
Amber grew up outside of Austin when her father, David, owned a small construction company while her mother, Patricia, worked as an internet researcher.
She rode horses, hunted and fished, and also competed in beauty pageants.
The actress was raised Catholic but began identifying as an atheist at the age of 16 after her best friend died in a car accident.
A year later, she dropped out of school and moved from Texas to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.
Heard came out publicly in 2010 but said, “I don’t label myself one way or the other — I’ve had successful relationships with men and now a woman. I love who I love; it is the person that counts.”

In April last year, Amber surprisingly announced that she had given birth to a baby daughter, Oonagh Paige Heard, via surrogate.
The Aquaman actress announced the happy news on her Instagram account by sharing a photo of herself and her daughter.
In the caption to her post, she said the little one was born on April 8th.
She wrote: “Four years ago I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms.
“My daughter was born on April 8, 2021. Her name is Oonagh Paige Heard.

“She’s the beginning of the rest of my life.”
The name Oonagh is Scottish and means pure and holy.
Her middle name is for Amber’s late mother, Paige, who died in 2020.
Amber was “unbelievably heartbroken and devastated” when her mother died at the age of 63.
Calling her mother “the most beautiful woman I had ever known” in an Instagram post, she added, “It’s hard to imagine and even harder to say, but I feel really lucky to have been her daughter and the gift.” Having gotten the light she shone on everyone fell on me for almost 34 years.”
At the time, Heard thanked her family and friends for helping her and sister Whitney through “the incredibly painful time.”
