Ambulance services attend a car fire on the M23 at Crawley

EMERGENCY services have visited the scene of a serious car fire that closed a road last night.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue were called to a vehicle fire on the M23 at Crawley at 10.14pm on Friday evening 22 July.

The emergency services were on site and found that a car was on fire.

Firefighters wore self-contained breathing apparatus and used a hose reel and thermal imaging camera to extinguish the blaze.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Services said: “Last night at 10.14pm we were called to a vehicle fire on the M23 between junctions 9 and 10.

“Joint Fire Control dispatched two fire engines from Crawley to the scene.

“On arrival, crews found a well-burning car and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire with a hose reel and thermal imaging camera before exiting the scene at 10:56 p.m.

“Sussex Police officers were also present and assisted the firefighters in keeping the motorway safe.”

A team from Sussex Specials attended the incident and closed the J10 ramp while emergency services worked to put out the fire.
