Amelia Earhart Quotes on her 125th Birthday

American aviator Amelia Earhart, who became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, was born on July 24, 1897.

She and her navigator, Fred Noonan, mysteriously disappeared on July 2, 1937 while attempting a circumnavigation flight.

Their bodies were never found, leading to several conspiracy theories about their disappearance. Some theories claimed that Earhart’s plane ran out of gas and crashed into the open sea somewhere near Howland Island. Some also said her body had been eaten by coconut crabs. However, there was no evidence to support the claims.

On this day the world celebrates and remembers their achievements. Here are some quotes from the legendary aviator, courtesy of and BrainyQuotes, to celebrate her 125th birthday.

1. The hardest thing is deciding to act, the rest is just persistence. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you choose. You can act to change and control your life; and the process, the process, is its own reward.

2. My goal is for this wonderful gift to produce practical results for the future of commercial flying and for the women who might want to fly the planes of tomorrow.

3. One of my favorite phobias is that girls, especially those whose tastes don’t conform to routine, often don’t get a fair break… It’s been passed down through generations, a legacy of age-old customs that has produced the consequence that women are bred to be shy.

4. The woman who can create her own job is the woman who will win fame and fortune.

5. Please note that I am aware of the dangers. I want to do it because I want to do it. Women must try to do things that men have tried. If they fail, their failure must be a challenge for others.

6. Never interrupt someone on something you said is not possible.

7. The dominion of the soul? Every time we make a choice, we pay with courage to see a restless day and judge it fairly.

8. I make no claim to advance scientific data other than to advance flight knowledge. All I can say is that I do it because I want to.

9. In my life, I had come to realize that when things were going very well, it was indeed time to anticipate difficulties. And conversely, I learned from pleasant experience that in the most desperate crisis, when everything looked indescribably sour, a delightful “breakthrough” lurked just around the corner.

10. The most effective way to do it is to do it.
