Americans are getting a SPECIAL version of the iPhone 14 with a big change – and the Brits can’t buy it

AMERICANS will have a slightly different version of the iPhone 14 compared to the rest of the world when it releases this week.

While things will look and run exactly the same on all four models of the new smartphone, the Americans are getting a special under-the-hood exclusivity.

The eSIM version of the iPhone 14 will only be available in the US

Only in the US will the iPhone 14 series come without a SIM card.

Apple is scrapping the need for a physical SIM card in favor of modern eSIMs.

eSIM does everything electronically, so you no longer have to fiddle with SIM cards when switching carriers.

But for Brits and everyone else around the world, we’re keeping the SIM card slot for now.

Of course, for eSIMs to work, the carrier has to support it, and luckily for Americans, the big ones do.

Apple started rolling out eSIM back in 2018, allowing users to use two SIM cards at the same time.

This means customers can essentially download a SIM card from their provider.

Corresponding The edgethe iPhone 14 and 14 Pro can store at least eight eSIMs, with up to two active at a time.

This is especially useful for frequent travelers.

In the US, major brands like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile support eSIM.

Meanwhile, EE, O2 and Vodafone allow it across the pond.

It’s not clear why Apple decided to only start support in the US.

But it gives a glimpse of where the company is headed.

Apple is launching four new iPhone models this year, including the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

They’re the first iPhones in years to ditch the notch at the top of the display and feature a pill-shaped cutout instead.

With four new models on offer, the iPhone 14 is now the entry-level option.

The iPhone 14 Plus is pretty much the same but with a larger display, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has all the bells and whistles.

iPhone 14 specs and features

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro come with 6.1-inch displays, but the Plus and Pro Max models expand to 6.7-inches.

There are five colors to choose from including Midnight, Starlight, Blue, Purple and Red.

Apple has kept last year’s A15 chip to power the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, while upgrading the Pro range to a more powerful new A16 chip.

Apple has also upgraded its cameras, claiming that the iPhone 14 can perform better in low-light environments and offer 49 percent better low-light image capture.

There’s a larger sensor and faster focus with an f/1.5 aperture.

Apple says it’s now possible to take night mode photos much faster.

And the selfie camera has also been improved with a faster aperture, offering a 39 percent boost for low-light selfies.

There are also some new safety features, like car crash detection, which can automatically alert emergency services if you’re in danger.

Apple has also added a new Emergency feature to get help even if you’re unplugged in a remote location.
