Amir Khan ‘s wife has shared CCTV footage of the moment the boxing legend was robbed at gunpoint in London over his watch.
The former two-weight world champion was in Leyton, east London, with his wife Faryal Makhdoom on Monday night when he claimed he was robbed by two men over his £72,000 Franck Muller Geneve watch.
Khan posted to social media after the incident to confirm he and his wife were safe, writing: “I had just taken my watch off at gunpoint in East London, Leyton. I crossed the street with Faryal, luckily she was only a few steps behind me.
“Two men ran towards me, he asked for my watch while pointing a gun in my face. As long as we’re both safe.” Makhdoom has since released CCTV footage of the moment Khan was confronted by the robbers after leaving a restaurant in Leyton with his wife.
In the video posted by Makhdoom, two men can be seen exiting a Mercedes-Benz vehicle and walking up a street. A little over ten seconds later, two men run down the street toward the vehicle that had just dropped them off.
” Footage of last night ‘s armed robbery , ” she wrote . “Two men came out of the car…they knew exactly when we got out. Seems like a staging to me considering we didn’t even post where we were. It makes me sick to know that someone sitting in the restaurant was probably the one who planned this.”
Hours before the raid, Khan was pictured with the watch while posing for a photo with a fan at a JD Sports store. An eyewitness at the crime scene tells The sun that Khan was shaken by the incident and said: “You [the robbers] didn’t hang around. They got straight into the car and fled.
“Amir had a lovely evening with his wife and went shopping earlier in the day. It raises real concerns that he was an intentional target. It’s extremely serious. He was absolutely terrified.”
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police confirmed a search had been conducted in the area Khan claimed was robbed, but they have not yet made any arrests. An official investigation into the incident has been launched.
