Amy Schumer has revealed that she suffers from hair pulling.
She suffers from trichotillomania, the scientific name for compulsive hair pulling, and the actress said she was too embarrassed to talk about it until now, despite having it since childhood.
The 40-year-old Trainwreck star has opened up about how she fears the condition could be passed on to her two-year-old son.
she said The Hollywood Reporter : “I’m proud that my big secret only hurts me, but it was what I’ve been ashamed of for so long.”
Amy said her condition was so bad when she was younger that she needed a wig to cover her bald spots and that everyone at her school knew she wore one because it didn’t fit her properly.
Trichotillomania has a genetic component. Amy says she feels like she’s having a heart attack every time son Gene – who she shares with husband Chris Fischer – touches his hair.
She confronts her issue with her condition in her new scripted Hulu show Life & Beth, based in part on her real life.
Amy hopes coming to terms with the story will help ease the shame for herself and others affected who may feel the same way.
Amy also recently shared how great she felt after liposuction, something she never thought she would do.

She said she didn’t want to hide the fact that she’d had surgery as she spoke candidly about it on Chelsea Handler’s ‘Dear Chelsea’ podcast.
She said: “I had liposuction. I never thought I would do something like this. For example, when I heard about liposuction, I just thought, this is so crazy for me, and I would say I will never do anything.”
She said her mind changed after she turned 40 and had a cesarean.
Amy also had to have surgery to remove her uterus and appendix after giving birth to her son to heal the pain she was experiencing from endometriosis.
She added: “I’m healing well and I was like can I get lipo? And I got lipo and I feel really good.
“I just wanted to say that because if someone sees me in pictures or something and they look like that, she looks thinner and whatever: that’s because I’ve had surgery.
“It’s too hard and I just want to be honest.”
