Amy Schumer said she pitched the show’s producers the idea of having Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy perform at this year’s Oscars.
The comedian, who is set to host the 94th annual awards shows on Sunday, said the show is a “great opportunity” to highlight current world events.
But speaking to ET Canada, she revealed the idea had been rejected.
“I actually advertised … I wanted to find a way to have[President]Zelensky satellites or do a tape or something just because there are so many eyes on the Oscars,” she said.
“I’m not afraid to go there, but I’m not producing the Oscars.”
Schumer will host the ceremony along with US actors and comedians Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes.
The stars will make history this year as the first all-female cast to host the show, which will be watched by millions around the world.
“I think there’s definitely pressure to say, ‘This is a holiday, let people forget we only want to have this night,’ but it’s like we have so many eyes and ears on this show.” , says Schumer called.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to comment on at least a few things. I have some jokes that highlight the current state.
“I mean, there are so many terrible things happening that it seems hard to focus on which one.”
The 94th Academy Awards will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on March 27th.
