An elderly woman dies in a fire in a bungalow

An elderly woman has died in a fire at a chalet bungalow in Co Fermanagh.

The pensioner, in her 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire in the Killynure Crescent area of ​​Enniskillen on Thursday evening.

An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is underway.

PSNI Detective Inspector Winters said: “Around 5.55pm police were informed of a fire at the property and were present along with colleagues from other emergency services.

“Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) extinguished the fire but unfortunately a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are currently investigating to determine the cause of the fire. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote reference number 1665 dated 01/26/23.”

NIFRS Area Commander David Nichol has offered his condolences to the family of the dead woman.

“The thoughts and sympathy of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service are with the family of a woman who sadly died after a house fire in Enniskillen last night,” he said.

“Firefighters were called to a chalet bungalow fire in Killynure Crescent, Enniskillen at 5.53pm on Thursday 26th January.

“Four fire engines attended the incident, two from Enniskillen, one from Irvinestown and one from Lisnaskea.

“Firefighters put out the fire but tragically a woman died at the scene.
