That tuchel gave Christensen the chance to win trophies that really mean something to the defender, by picking him to start games at the end of major tournaments.
“Over the last few years, things have come together as they should have been,” says Christensen.
“I’ve been here for so long, there are so many different managers, and it’s hard for a young player to prove himself all the time.
“But coming from the academy, where people know me very well, it was the last few years that I should have been for a long time at a comfortable level.
“If I have to say something about myself, that is probably my biggest weakness, that I haven’t been consistent enough, but over the last few seasons I have gotten so much better and become part of the team. what we’re trying now is great.
“Ultimately with Frank Lampard I struggled to get the game time I wanted, but Thomas came in and knew I was from Germany and I had the idea pretty early on. It helped me a lot.
“I have the space to make the mistakes I made and still play, whereas earlier in my career I might have struggled to get back into the team.
“That has helped me a lot in terms of my confidence and the team as a whole. He gave a lot of space to me and the others, to allow them to make mistakes.
“It happens. We learn from them. He helped me a lot.”
At Wembley on Sunday, where the Blues face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, Christensen will have a chance to win one of two competitions – along with FA Cup – something he hasn’t won in 10 years at Stamford Bridge.
He added: “I’m part of winning a lot of titles, but at the same time, you don’t really feel like you deserve it because you haven’t played.
“You as a boy may have played the first rounds with smaller teams and you just don’t feel like you’re part of it.
“The last few years have been very good for me – I played the whole Europa League and the final, then Champions Leaguea big part of it, last year and most recently the Club World Cup.
“Being involved and feeling worthy is a great feeling. That’s what keeps me going. I want more titles.”
Although grateful to Tuchel, Christensen could also leave Chelsea when his contract expires in the summer.
He added: “Things can still be done. Being part of a winning team is everything I want to be as a footballer.
“It’s been difficult because of all the talk between the club and my boys, I try to keep it going because I want to stay focused and it hasn’t changed for me.
“I go out every day without really thinking about it. I leave that to the club and my boys, and I can focus on playing football.
“I’m just focused on winning, really. It was a difficult situation. ”
