Emmerdale star Andy Devine, who played iconic Shadrach Dingle, has died aged 79.

Actor who is known for his iconic role in soap ITVpassed away in January.

News of his grieving death came out today.

Andy, born Peter Devine, played the fierce Shadrach between 2000 and 2010.

Public records confirm that Andy passed away on January 27.

His cause of death has yet to be confirmed.

He appeared in Emmerdale in 2010 when his lovable character was killed in an emotional plot about alcohol abuse.

Andy also starred as the draconian Guardian in several episodes of the Doctor Who story Frontier in Space, as well as Bernard in Channel 4’s Queer As Folk.

Mourning words have been poured out for the late actor since news of his death emerged.

One Twitter user wrote: “Gone too soon. What a legend. RIP Andy Devine.”

“So sad to hear about Andy Devine,” another added.

Meanwhile, a third wrote: “When I think of Emmerdale, I think of him.”

He brought the character of Shadrach to life, the downfall being a favorite with fans of the ITV show.

He’s the husband of Faith Dingle and the father of Chas Dingle and Gennie Walker, and often sticks to nearly a decade of misses on the soap.

Shadrach, a heavy drinker throughout his life on the show, eventually passed away in 2010.

His beloved character was killed off in an emotional episode in July that saw him tragically drown in a spring in Dales as part of a hateful alcohol abuse plot. .

An autopsy later revealed that Shadrach would not have died within hours of drinking problems if he hadn’t drowned first.

The actor had a long career, serving in the Royal Navy in the 1960s.

He later became a classical actor before turning to soap making.
