Angry BMW driver causes £4,000 damage at car park barrier after raging over £4 ticket

An angry driver who refused to pay a £4 parking ticket caused £4,000 damage to the barrier by trying to force it out of the way, police officers say.

In a “moment of madness”, the motorist, who pulled up in a flashy £60,000 BMW X6 at Southampton’s West Quay car park, is said to have blown up the barricade rather than pay the tiny fee.

One officer wrote on Twitter: “Called to an incident of a car park customer who was unwilling to pay a £4 parking fee, attempted to enforce the barrier himself and caused an estimated £4,000 in damage – which they are now likely to be liable for.

“A moment of madness can get pretty expensive.”

Police were called to the scene around 6:40 p.m. Sunday and a motorist was spoken to.
