Misdirected customers became furious after admins told them they would not receive refunds.

The fast fashion chain collapsed last month after suppliers to whom it owed millions of pounds filed for dissolution.

Teneo was hired by Missguided to handle the administrative process. Customers on social media say they have now been told their refunds will not be honored.

Buyers typically face a struggle to get their money back when a company goes bust because they owe money to creditors.

Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group have agreed to buy Missguided in a deal worth around £20million but the sale is not expected to be completed before August.

Misguided customer Emma Devlin, 30, a teacher from Teesside, told The Mirror she was waiting for a refund on £160 of clothes.

Administrators are now trying to save Missguided

She paid with a mix of her debit card and Klarna and was told to apply to both payment providers to get her money back.

How this would work is explained below.

Emma said: “It’s quite chaotic as so many people have paid for items, returned them and lost all that money.

“With the current cost of living, people need all the money they can get. Missguided pretty much took the money with no explanation other than an excuse for going into administration.”

Another shopper said: “I can’t believe I sent my items back and now I’m told I can’t get a refund. So now I have no more items and £70 less.”

One customer told Twitter that she “freaked out” after being told she wouldn’t be getting a refund.

She shared a text from administrators at Teneo which read: “We cannot provide pre-appointment refunds that have been requested and not yet settled.

“In this case, you can submit an application in the administrative procedure.”

Teneo declined to comment on the decision not to issue refunds.

The Missguided website is currently unavailable due to buyers being unable to browse or place orders due to “maintenance pixies”.

“Our maintenance pixies are currently working on the site,” read a message.

“We’ll be back soon, in the meantime check out our blog or let our customer service team help you with an existing order…”

It comes a day after Frasers confirmed it will rehire Missguided founder Nitin Passi to become the company’s chief executive once the acquisition is complete.

Mr. Passi left the company in April as the group was looking for a new owner.

What happens next if you’re a Missguided customer?

If Missguided has told you that it will not give you a refund, you may be able to use other methods to recover your money.

First, there is Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, or the chargeback system.

Section 75 can be used for credit card spend gone wrong for purchases between £100 and £30,000.

Because the Consumer Credit Act requires that your card issuer is jointly and severally liable in addition to the company you bought from.

Debit card payments, checks, and wire transfers that aren’t covered under the Consumer Credit Act may qualify for the chargeback program instead.

Unfortunately, this is not a legal requirement, so there is no guarantee that you will get your money back.

You’ll need to contact your bank or card provider to start either process.

Buy now, pay later Customers should speak to their lender and ask if they can issue a refund.
