Local residents have complained that their rubbish bins have not been collected since before Christmas.
Coventry City Council has now warned garden waste collection could be delayed by a further few weeks.
In a statement, the authority has instructed residents to leave their bins outside in the coming days, as they say they will come to them “as soon as possible”. It is hoped that delays will ease over the “next few weeks” with “regular traffic” across the city.
Residents were furious at the delays and took to Facebook to express their frustration., reports Coventry Live.
Ann Beverley fumed: “There have been bins with blue and brown lids on my street for two weeks. I have trouble parking at all for them. Will you be picked up tomorrow? Who knows! What a mess!”
Julie Thomas said: “Once I was patient and used my expensive petrol to take the rubbish for me and my elderly parents to the collection point, I knew we could at least dispose of general rubbish and then recyclable rubbish.
“I find it awful to be missing for a week and I’m more than a little upset, especially after being told it would be picked up just this past weekend.”
Emma Puente sarcastically quipped, “High levels of garden waste after not collecting it since before Christmas? Don’t say it.”
Louise Pittaway said: “All the brown barrels are out in CV7.
Another named Anne wrote: “You should have been aware and prepared for a high level of garden waste. It was totally predictable as we haven’t had any yard waste collections so far this year and people are already behind on garden maintenance from missed collections last year.”
A council spokesman said: “If it is your intended garden waste collection today (May 3) and we cannot reach you, please leave your bin outside and we will get you as soon as possible.
“High levels of garden waste are causing collection delays. This should ease over the next few weeks with regular service. Thank you everyone for your patience.”
