The latest episode of ITV’s Saturday Night Takeaway sees hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly welcome broadcaster Alan Partridge to the set as guest announcer
Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were left out on the latest episode of Saturday Night Takeaway.
The host duo welcomed Alan Partridge onto the set as their latest guest broadcaster this weekend, but they were unprepared for some of his remarks.
Imitating British television personalities, Alan Partridge is a tasteless and inept right-wing broadcaster played by actor and comedian Steve Coogan.
At one point, the iconic character joked that he was about to dangerously violate ITV guidelines by nearly mentioning P&O Ferries.
The company recently caused outrage by laying off 800 employees without notice.
After Ant and Dec played Kiddie-oke with three spectators, Alan gave his thoughts and joked that child performers would earn a higher salary working for “that ferry company”.
When Ant and Dec asked Alan about his verdict on this week’s version of the studio game, he replied, “I think it’s great, although when I see what you’re paying those kids for , I was appalled.
“I was told they should do a better job for the ferry company you say I’m not allowed to mention because of ITV guidelines.”
Ant and Dec looked a little flustered after the comment, and viewers flocked to Twitter to comment on the gag.
One person tweeted: “Alan Partridge, reach out to the people he has to…. Back online!
“If you can’t watch, there can be a nice discussion on Saturday night about walking in downtown Norwich. #Antanddec #SaturdayNightTakeaway #alanpartidge #stevecoogan.”
Another posted: “Alan Partridge is too smart for Ant and Dec audiences. Nice to see him walking to the top of the show without the audience noticing. Jurassic Park!”
However, other viewers were not amused by his jokes and some even accused him of “ruining” the show.
“Alan Partridge, or rather Steve Coogan, is a total disaster, so crazy and so lame. Love everything else and Ant and Dec as always. #SaturdayNightTakeaway,” one person said.
Another tweeted: “#SaturdayNightTakeaway absolutely loves ants and dec is Geordie’s teammate but saw partway Alan so patiently on tonight’s show like he was so good to be there, maybe was planned for him that way but didn’t work out for me.”
A third viewer commented: “Party Alan is really spoiling #SaturdayNightTakeaway for me tonight.”
