Winger Elanga, 19, has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects at United during his first season with the first team and has racked up three goals this term.
Midfielder Matic, who also came on from the bench in Madrid to help MU save the draw, thinks Elanga has a huge future at Old Trafford and praised the Swedish U21 star’s hard work attitude.
“For a very young player to come here and score against Atletico Madrid, he will surely remember this moment forever and he deserves it,” said Matic.
“He is working very hard, he is a very, very good kid I must say – very polite, respectful and I think he is the future of our club.”
Regarding United’s draw at Madrid, which gives them a psychological advantage ahead of the second leg at Old Trafford in three weeks’ time, Matic said: “We are delighted to have scored the last goal and we are home. , say, positive results.
“But we also know that we have to play better football and have more control of the ball – and the game.
“There are some things that we have to work on and we have to improve, but coming here at this stadium with a very good team and to draw is not so bad.
“But deep down, we knew we had to play better.”
United goalkeeper David De Gea, who is facing his former side for the first time, said of the second leg: “It’s going to be huge, I can’t wait for the game.
“It is always a special night when you play in the Champions League at Old Trafford.
“The atmosphere was crazy, it was unbelievable, and hopefully with the energy of the fans and the intensity that we have, it will be a good game for us.
“We have to play better and win the game. It was a big goal and there was everything to play at Old Trafford.
“For sure we have to improve and play better to beat Atletico Madrid. So let’s keep improving and stay together.”
