Singer-songwriter Aoife Doyle returned to her hometown of Bray this weekend for a performance at the Mermaid Arts Center.

oife was originally from Bray and now lives in County Clare.

She’ll be joining at Mermaid on Saturday night for this homecoming performance by her band of stellar musicians – pianist Greg Felton, bassist Andrew Csibi and drummer Dominic Mullan. Aoife will feature music from her brand new album ‘Infinifinity Clear’, a lighthearted, soulful fusion of jazz, folk, soul and blues that has received critical acclaim.

In addition to writing and performing her own rich music, Doyle recently performed a Dublin classical piece to which she has a special connection.

In December, Tim Doyle, Jack Maher and Aoife Doyle performed the song Summer In Dublin for the series titled The Dublin Song. Dublin Songs is produced by Artscope, featuring performances and interviews about songs associated with Dublin.

“Summer In Dublin was especially close to my heart when my uncle Ken formed the band Bagatelle with Liam Reilly, who originally wrote and played the song,” she said.

“In Clare, I have more quiet time to reflect,” says Aoife.

“The lack of billboards, traffic and other superficial stimuli makes life so much simpler,” she said.

“I think nature is the most primitive form of creation and living in the country and keeping a garden, you are seeing the tectonic cycle from seed to plant to harvest.

“Watching this cycle has helped me a lot to understand the nature of creativity and the time, care and care you have to give to reap the rewards. And this study created favorable conditions for my composing”.

She grew up in a home filled with folk and traditional music, and completed her Master’s in Composition at the World Academy of Music and Dance at UL.

Aoife cites a wide range of musical influences including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Alison Krauss and Eva Cassidy, as well as Marvin Gaye, Tammy Tyrell, Joni Mitchell, Beyoncé, Declan O’Rourke, Ger Wolfe and Bjork, and the resonance of this fascinating combination comes to varying degrees on the various tracks on the new album.

Infinity Clear is produced by acclaimed musician, composer and producer Michael Buckley, “one of my best musical decisions”.
