Apple confirms HUGE event for March 8 – and new iPhones could be coming

APPLE has confirmed a “special event” on March 8 – and a new iPhone is likely to hit the market.
The tech giant is holding an event at its Apple Park HQ and streaming the footage to the world.
It’s likely we’ll see some add-ons announced.
Rumored to be a new iPhone SE – a bargain smartphone for budget-conscious buyers.
The event will take place at 10am California time – 1pm in New York and 6pm in London.
Apple has dubbed the event “Peek Performance”, a rather mysterious event.
That could be a clue that upgraded MacBooks with more powerful chips are on the way.
In any case, Apple events in the spring are not unusual.
And as is the case with other recent Apple events, this one will also be virtual.
That means the press corps will not attend.
The tech giant is expected to unveil a new “cheap” iPhone, a refurbished Mac and an improved iPad Air.
Apple have not publicly confirmed any such release.
But the main event is said to be the new iPhone SE.
A leak earlier this year showed that Iphone will go into production in January.
That’s according to industry insiders and Apple analysts Ross Young.
Normally Apple will announce new iPhone models in September.
But the company launched a handful of iPhones at events in the spring.
It will be part of the cheaper iPhone SE line – there’s no 5G option right now.
Apple only started offering 5G phones in 2020 with the iPhone 12.
Since then, the iPhone 13 series has also launched with 5G onboard.
Bloomberg journalist and longtime Apple leaker Mark Gurman also said that an iPhone SE 3 is on the market.
Apple insiders say the phone is expected to launch in March or April.
Gurman said his sources have not explicitly confirmed that the device will be named iPhone SE 3.
But it looks like it’s gone down in Apple’s history.
The iPhone SE stands for Special Edition and was launched in 2016.
It’s designed to be a cheaper option that runs alongside the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
This became commonplace, so Apple repeated it in 2020 with the iPhone SE 2.
The device debuted alongside the iPhone 11, but borrowed most of its design from the iPhone 8.
However, it ships with more powerful components than the iPhone 8 – and significantly cheaper than the iPhone 11.
The event will be completely virtual.
That’s in contrast to pre-pandemic Apple launches, which would have been tangled in-person events with media and device influencers.
Apple is said to be planning an iPhone 8-style device with a 4.7-inch display – and a Touch ID button on the front.
But it’s likely the phone will pack upgraded hardware, including a faster processor and more capable cameras.
Rumors suggest it will only cost $299 – and the old iPhone SE will drop to $199.
The big news will be the advent of 5G, which is now more widely supported across the US and UK.
We also expect to see a more powerful iPad Air with a newer custom A-series chip.
And a newer Mac is also on the card.
