APPLE is expected to launch its cheapest 5G iPhone to date – priced at just $299.
The new phone may launch at a low price on Tuesday, March 8.
Apple has yet to publicly confirm the existence of the iPhone SE 3.
But special Apple’s Spring Event will take place on March 8.
The company is said to be launching the first 5G version of the iPhone SE.
The iPhone SE is Apple’s cheapest smartphone.
A first-generation model debuted in 2016, followed by a second-generation variant in 2020.
According to Loop Capital Markets analyst John Donovan, the new third-generation iPhone SE could cost as little as $299.
That price is significantly cheaper than the $399 of the iPhone SE 2, due out in 2020.
However, rival analyst Daniel Ives – of Wedbush Securities – said Apple is likely to stick to the $399 level.
That means the price of the iPhone SE 3 will likely fall between $299 and $399 in the US, and £279 and £399 in the UK.
According to experts, selling an iPhone at an extremely low price makes sense for Apple.
The company has repeatedly confirmed its focus on monetizing services — like App Store purchases, Apple Music subscriptions, and Apple TV viewers.
That means Apple will want to get its devices into the hands of as many people as possible — even if the devices themselves don’t generate huge profits.
The event will take place at 10am California time – 1pm in New York and 6pm in London.
Apple has dubbed the event “Peek Performance”, a rather mysterious event.
If Apple announces the iPhone SE 3 on March 8, we expect the phone to be available for pre-order the same Friday – March 11.
After that, Apple will likely start selling the phone in stores the following Friday – on March 18.
We spoke with CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood about the new mobile phone.
Ben told The Sun: “iPhone SE is an important Apple franchise.
“It also caters perfectly to people who need a phone but don’t want all the bells and whistles.
“Apple will likely follow its usual approach of making incremental improvements across all areas such as processor power, battery life, and display.
“The other big story will be the addition of 5G.
“All operators in the UK are eager to get as many people using 5G as possible, and having an entry-level iPhone that supports the technology is key.”
