APPLE has released an important iPhone update that you need to install as soon as possible.
It fixes major bugs and includes security fixes, so it’s worth updating immediately.
The new update went live last night and is called iOS 16.0.3.
It is now available for free download.
“This update provides bug fixes and important security fixes for your iPhone,” Apple said.
To get it, go to Settings > General > Software update.
If you want to be extra safe, make sure you also turn on automatic updates.
The update fixes a number of issues with the new iPhone 14 models.
These include issues with the camera, volume, and calls.
It also fixes the weird mail “mailjack” bug that caused certain emails to crash the app.
iPhone iOS 16.0.3 patch notes
Here are the official Apple patch notes for iOS 16.0.3…
- Incoming calls and app notifications may be delayed or not delivered on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
- Low microphone volume may occur during CarPlay calls on iPhone 14 models
- Camera may be slow to launch or switch between modes on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
- Mail crashes on startup after receiving a corrupted email
Not all iPhones are the same
Apple can’t support all iPhones forever – so very old iPhone models often lose access to updates.
Sometimes these old iPhones aren’t capable of supporting new features, or not enough people are using them to justify deploying an update.
Now the iPhone 6S, iPhone 7 and 1st generation iPhone SE are being cut off by Apple.
These handsets were compatible with 15.6.1 but will not receive iOS 16.
If you’re using older iPhones, you’re already cut off, so consider upgrading to a newer model right away.
Here is the full list of devices supported by iOS 16:
- iPhone 14
- iPhone 14Plus
- iPhone 14 pro
- iPhone 14 pro max
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 pro
- iPhone 13 Pro max
- iphone 12
- iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 12 pro
- iPhone 12 pro max
- iphone 11
- iPhone 11 pro
- iPhone 11 Pro max
- iPhone XS
- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone XR
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8plus
- iPhone SE (2nd generation or newer)
If you can’t get the latest iOS, you’ll lose access to the latest security fixes.
These are critical patches that close vulnerabilities used by hackers to gain access to your systems.
So using a very old iPhone that cannot be updated could put you at risk.
If you can’t update to iOS 16, you’d better update your iPhone sooner rather than later.
