Apple store workers at Grand Central Terminal begin collecting signatures to form a union

Apple retail workers at a New York store in Grand Central Terminal have begun collecting signatures to form a union, according to a report by The Washington Post.

The organizers, who are reportedly behind Fruit Stand Workers United, made the announcement in an update on the Pacific Blue Collar Organizing Committee website that they voted to join Workers United on February 21, 2022. Workers United is supporting the same group recent union organizing efforts at Starbucks stores across the country.

As noted by The post, organizers at the Grand Central location are distributing signature cards so employees can express their interest in forming a union. If at least 30 percent of workers sign it, organizers can petition the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to hold a union election. To date, there has not been an Apple Store that has successfully formed a union.

“Grand Central is an exceptional business with unique working conditions that make a union necessary to ensure our team have the best possible standard of living during these extraordinary times,” the organizers’ website said, citing inflation rates and pandemic store closures.
