Arceus – 5 big changes that changed the whole series

POKEMON Legends: Arceus is out tomorrow, but fans of the series will have some big changes.

The game dropped the formula that longtime players would be familiar with, and when reviews rolled out, the new Pokemon title caused some controversy.

Newcomers and die-hard fans will all be in the same boat, so let’s dive into the major changes that will

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is open world – kinda

Game Freak has gone beyond The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild book in terms of aesthetics and gameplay.

If you’ve played the Nintendo Switch launch title, you’ll be familiar with the sweeping vistas and third-person perspective that Pokemon Legends: Arceus seems to emulate.

Although not a fully open world, the game’s map is divided into many different areas.

As players progress, they will unlock new districts to go and explore, which are inhabited by different pokemon.

So while it’s not on the same scale as Breath of the Wild, it’s a different world from the franchise’s usual fare.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus lets you ride pokemon

There aren’t many instances of seeing your friends poking around on screen and interacting with them in the Pokemon series.

Sure, you can use their abilities to cut down trees, cross bodies of water, and overcome obstacles.

But you don’t see them in action, and we never get much involved with them when we explore the world.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus changes all that, by introducing a new feature that lets you ride your pokemon.

Whether you’re soaring through the sky, swimming across a lake, or across a field, your pokemon is always there with you.

The transformable pokemon will add a new dimension to the game that has been missing from the series.

In-game bonding is always fun, especially when they provide an opportunity for players to bond with them.

As long as you get hold of the Celestica Flute, you’ll be able to hitchhike so you don’t have to walk.

How to catch pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus has changed

Unlike the random encounters of previous Pokemon games, Pokemon Legends: Arceus handles things very differently.

Previous series iterations threw players into battles with no idea what they were up against.

The new gameplay lets you watch pokemon move around in the open air.

Their reactions will vary, from running away to attacking you directly, so you need to be careful when approaching them.

Obviously the bonus here is that you can see which pokemon are where.

To catch one, you need to manually aim and throw an orb at it.

Alternatively, you can send one of your own pokemon out and weaken it in battle before you attempt to catch it.

Pokemon Trainer in Pokemon Legends: Arceus Doesn’t Exist

Historically, the Pokemon series saw players begin to build a pokemon team.

The team they assemble is crucial in beating each region’s Gym and winning badges.

One all badges collected, that’s fighting the Elite Four and then becoming the Pokemon League Champion.

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus there is no Elite Four, or even Pokemon League.

The game is set before the series as we know it, and before humans and pokemon started working together.

These changes mean that the goal and end game will be completely different.

It will be a refreshing change but we will have to see how longtime fans will adjust.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus introduces crafting

In 13 minutes dive into Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the latest part videotapes from Nintendo touched lightly on another new game – crafting.

In addition to being inhabited by different pokemon, the regions of Hisui also have a variety of raw materials.

Players can collect these during their travels and use them to craft items like decoys, smoke bombs, Poke Balls, healing items and more.

The series often features players buying or finding items, so maybe saving some money and crafting everything yourself is definitely easier in the wallet.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus releases on Friday, January 28 on Nintendo Switch.
