Arrests in Shoreham after car chase through West Sussex

Four people were arrested after a chase in which a police vehicle was ‘rammed’.

The pursuit came after the car was later spotted going the wrong way around roundabouts and speeding on the A283 towards Shoreham.

The suspects, aged between 17 and 20, were arrested at 2am on Wednesday October 9 on suspicion of a variety of offenses including failing to stop, driving in violation of the drug limit and possession of a locking knife.

All suspects remain in custody.

The PCSO whose car was rammed at Beachcroft Place in Lancing is receiving expert assistance but was not injured in the incident.

Chief Inspector Sarah Leadbitter, District Commander of Adur and Worthing, said: “This incident highlights some of the challenges faced by our officers and PCSOs on a daily basis.

“The suspicious vehicle was identified and officers from various units in the area showed great teamwork.

“They acted quickly to bring the suspect vehicle to a safe stop and prevent it from endangering other road users.”

The vehicle was also being driven on the A264 towards Horsham where it did not stop for police.

The arrest included members of the street police unit, the tactical firearms unit, and police dogs. Arrests in Shoreham after car chase through West Sussex
