Arsenal have equaled a 15-year record set by former Manchester United stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney in their victory Chelsea.

The Gunners traveled to Stamford Bridge First League on Wednesday to end a streak of three straight losses. In a way, they achieved that goal by capitalizing on it devastating Chelsea defense secured a 4-2 win via Thomas Tuchel’s website.

Two goals from Eddie Nketiah coupled with strikes from young duo Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe were enough to seal the Gunners victory. They drew level on points with the four best competitors Tottenhamwith the two sides yet to play each other before the season ends.

Goals from Smith Rowe and Saka also made sure of that arsenal set a record previously matched only twice in the Premier League. The record is that the Gunners have seen two players aged 21 or younger score 10 or more goals in a single season.

Both Saka and Smith Rowe have now netted ten times this season in the top flight. The duo are also at or under the age limit for the record, with Smith Rowe not turning 22 until July and Saka still only 20.

The last couple to score 10 goals while playing for the same team and aged 21 or younger was Ronaldo and Rooney in the 2006/2007 season. Rooney reached the 10 goal mark on the last day of January 2007, while Ronaldo had reached that number on Boxing Day 2006.

At the end of this season, they would clinch the Premier League title with United, something Smith Rowe and Saka can’t do this season. Before Ronaldo and Rooney, the last couple to score 10 goals aged 21 or younger was Michael Bridges and Harry Kewell at Leeds 1999/2000.

After his starring role in the Chelsea win, Saka was delighted with his side’s performance. The England international scored the Gunners’ last goal from the penalty spot and praised the character of Arteta’s side, who have recovered from two goals conceded.

“I’ve told you before that we want to give the fans something to believe in us and today we showed fight and character and today is a great result for us. It was difficult, every time we went through they scored again,” he told Sky Sport.

“We had to calm down and keep our cool and that’s what we did in the end to get the win. It means a lot to us to lose three games straight away, it was difficult and I feel like the lads are positive stayed.” We worked so hard in training and it finally paid off with the win tonight.”

Smith Rowe was also delighted to score after rolling the ball past Edouard Mendy to cap a brilliant team move. He said of the match of the day: “I thought we did really well tonight and fought to the end. The fans kept us going, so yes, we’re very happy to get the three points today.”
