Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli talks about the form of the club
Aaron Ramsdale has sent Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta a clear message on the club’s captaincy as the Gunners boss weighs up who should wear the armband next season.
The north London club’s key leadership role appears to have been forgiven as current captain Alexandre Lacazette is expected to leave in the summer when his contract expires. And Ramsdale has shown Arteta how keen he would be to be considered for the job should it become available.
It comes like leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has complained about Lacazette’s penalty in the Gunners’ 2-0 win over his side earlier this month. And Arsenal are set for a £2.5million transfer budget increase, which Stuttgart are aiming to achieve Konstantinos Mavropanos ‘ stay in the club permanently.

Increase in transfer budget
Arsenal could get a useful transfer budget boost as Konstantinos Mavropanos secures a permanent move to Stuttgart.
The Greek centre-back has spent the season on loan at the Bundesliga club, who have appeared so impressed with his performances that he now intends to include a call option clause in the contract. It means the Gunners’ coffers could be boosted by £2.5million ahead of another busy summer transfer window for Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu.
Lacazette complaint filed
Leicester City captain Kasper Schmeichel has expressed concerns about Alexandre Lacazette’s penalty against his side earlier this month.
The Danish goalkeeper was furious after Lacazette missed the penalty as he was convinced the Frenchman had stalled during his stuttering run-up – something not allowed under the Laws of the Game. He protested to referee Anthony Taylor but he and the VAR were satisfied no laws were broken.
And Schmeichel has now addressed his issues with refereeing panel PGMOL during a recent call from the captains.
Ramsdale claims captaincy
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale said he would “take responsibility” for wearing the captain’s armband should it become available.
The 23-year-old only joined the Emirates club last summer but has already made a good impression after edging his way into Mikel Arteta’s starting XI. A new Arsenal skipper could be appointed this summer following the departure of ex-captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January and with Alexandre Lacazette increasingly likely to leave after his contract expires.
And it’s absolutely clear that Ramsdale wants to be considered for the role, saying he would “outdo himself” if he received the armband.
