Arsenal launch the 2022/23 home kit

Arsenal’s first summer transfer deal was confirmed with the news of Konstantinos Mavropanos joining VfB Stuttgart on a permanent basis.

The Greek defender spent the season on loan at Stuttgart and the club have now fulfilled the terms set out in the contract, meaning the move is permanent. The sale will give Mikel Arteta and Edu a financial boost ahead of what is expected to be another busy summer transfer window at the Emirates.

The Gunners are hoping for a significant reinforcement at the end of the season as the club are reportedly planning a brace against Juventus for midfielders Arthur Melo and Weston McKennie. The unveiling of the new kit may have led to the club inadvertently hinting at the future of young defender Wiliam Saliba.

First summer transfer confirmed

The summer move from Konstantinos Mavropanos to VfB Stuttgart has been confirmed after the Bundesliga club prevented relegation.

The German team were obliged to buy the 24-year-old should they avoid the drop following his loan last summer. And the club’s safety was reaffirmed in dramatic fashion on Saturday as Die Roten secured a 2-1 win over Cologne through a 92nd-minute goal from Wataru Endo.

The move will reportedly be worth up to £4.5million with bonuses, giving Mikel Arteta some extra money to spend in the summer transfer window.

Double strike planned by Juventus

Arsenal are said to be in talks with Italian club Juventus over a summer move for midfielders Arthur Melo and Weston McKennie.

Reports from Italy suggest that Juventus boss Federico Cherubini has flown to London for talks with the Gunners over the duo – although the availability of Gabriel Magalhaes is also believed to be on the agenda. The Gunners are only willing to make deals for a fee of around €50m (£42.4m), although Juve could take advantage of the club’s interest in Arthur and McKennie and offer a swap deal.

Arthur almost joined Mikel Arteta’s side in the January transfer window and is said to have a long-standing interest in McKennie.

Saliba note deleted

Arsenal bosses may have inadvertently dropped a hint about William Saliba’s future at the unveiling of next season’s kit.

The young defender spent the season on loan at Ligue 1’s Marseille, with the French making no secret of their desire to keep the player through the summer. However, Mikel Arteta has insisted Saliba is part of Arsenal’s long-term plan and the Gunners could make room to include him in their first-team squad next season.

That’s because the number two shirt that Saliba has worn for Marseille all season appears to have been left blank.
