Mikel Arteta outlines his goals after signing new Arsenal contract

Sunday has the potential to be a big day for Arsenal.

After losing to Manchester United on Saturday and drawing for Tottenham and Chelsea, the Gunners have a chance to take a big step forward in the battle for the top four.

Mikel Arteta’s side will take on relegation-threatened Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium and will be confident of clinching the win that would put them within a point of the Blues and three points clear of their north London rivals.

Mirror Sport have their latest Arsenal news ahead of what is arguably the team’s biggest game of the season.

Saka admits Spurs’ motivation

Arsenal Tyro Bukayo Saka said battling Tottenham for fourth place gave the team even more motivation.

After Saturday’s games, the Gunners have an excellent chance to bring daylight between their closest rivals, which could prove crucial as we head towards the crucial period of the Premier League.

The two sides also meet on Thursday in what promises to be a super-charged encounter at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“No, I don’t think there can be anything better,” said Saka when asked about the Spurs row.

“That’s actually a great question. I don’t think there can be anything that motivates us more. We’re already motivated enough, but of course we don’t want to lose it to them. So that gives us that extra boost, but we know we have to win all the games.”

The Gunners’ young squad has been revived with the acquisitions of Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Martin Odegaard and others at a total cost of around £150million.

Di Canio recreates controversial Arsenal moment

One of the most notable moments in Premier League history came in a clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Arsenal when Owls forward Paolo Di Canio rolled over referee Paul Alcock after being sent off.

Di Canio was hit with a massive 11-game suspension for his behavior and subsequently said he “lost everything” after receiving his marching orders.

Still, the Italian recently re-enacted the moment with a wink when a side of the Owls legends, including Chris Waddle and Des Walker, took on a team of the Doncaster legends at Rovers’ Eco Power Stadium.
