Mikel Arteta’s end-of-season speech

Although Champions League football could elude them this season, Arsenal supporters will be hoping their side can end a campaign of encouragement on a high note.

Back-to-back defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United mean Spurs have their fate in their own hands in the top four before the final day, with a point at Norwich City enough to secure a Champions League spot for next season to book.

Arsenal host Everton in their last game of the season. They have to benefit from a potentially relaxed opposition after the Toffees confirmed their Premier League status on Thursday and also hope for a miracle at Carrow Road.

mirror sport has all the latest Arsenal news ahead of the final weekend of a season that has been equally frustrating and promising for Mikel Arteta’s team.

Arteta confirms transfer plans

The Arsenal manager has confirmed the club must spend the summer wisely as they seek to close the gap with the Premier League’s elite.

Retrieving their best XI, the Gunners looked like a match for any team in the league in 2021-22. However, injuries and suspensions have exposed the lack of squad depth at times in crucial games this season.

After spending around £150million last summer, Arteta was asked what the next window has in store for the club.

“We’re going to have certain resources, not unlimited resources, some resources,” he said. “And with our resources we have to play the best we can and do what we have to do. We don’t know what the rest of the resources will have, which I think will be a challenge because now it’s not a top 3 or top 4 league.

“Now there are eight or ten top teams, so we have to find a way to repeat what we did last summer.”

Saliba’s intention to transfer

William Saliba has reportedly told Marseille that he would be ready to join the club permanently at the end of the season.

The young Frenchman is on loan from Arsenal at the Ligue 1 club and has notably impressed this season. Saliba has established himself as one of the top defenders in the division and has again joined the squad for France’s senior squad this season.

According to reports from his home country, Saliba is now looking to consolidate the move to Marseille, but he is still held in high esteem at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have found a strong partnership in defense in Ben White and Gabriel this season, although Saliba would offer excellent competition for places if he were part of the squad next season.

Jesus review reported

Manchester City have reportedly offered a £55million price tag to Gabriel Jesus, a player Arsenal are said to be interested in.

Despite flashing quality in the sky-blue jersey, the Brazilian international under Pep Guardiola never quite asserted himself in the team. The Gunners are said to be ready to bring Jesus to the capital, where he would become a key part of Arteta’s plans.

However, the Premier League champions will reportedly not stray from their asking price, meaning a possible transfer saga involving the 25-year-old could stretch beyond the summer window.
