Mikel Arteta reviews Arsenal’s win over West Ham

Aaron Ramsdale’s incredible success in an Arsenal shirt this season has seen him get over a warning Gunners boss Mikel Arteta shot at him on their first phone call.

The England goalkeeper signed for the Emirates side last summer when he joined from relegated Sheffield United for £30million. Eyebrows were raised at the time of the deal, with many expecting Ramsdale to play second fiddle to Bernd Leno this season.

But Ramsdale has carved his way into Arsenal’s starting XI, proving Arteta’s warning was wrong. It comes as Mike Dean was spotted reacting to the Arsenal keeper’s goal celebration against West Ham.

And the Gunners are reportedly making “a very serious effort” to land £84million-rated Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen.

Diaby eyed

Arsenal are making “very serious efforts” to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, it has been reported.

The Frenchman has recorded an impressive tally of 12 goals and 11 assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances this season, which has led to him being linked with a multitude of clubs from across Europe. And reports from Germany suggest the Gunners are bent on beating their rivals for his signature.

But the Gunners will have stiff competition to land Diaby as other Premier League sides are also said to be interested in him – and Leverkusen are demanding a mammoth £84million fee to part with the striker.

Arteta’s Ramsdale warning

Mikel Arteta warned Aaron Ramsdale it could be a year before he becomes Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper before signing for the club.

But after the Gunners’ struggles earlier in the season, Ramsdale got his chance before Bernd Leno and he hasn’t looked back, recording the season and keeping 12 clean sheets in 30 league games. However, the Englishman has now admitted Arteta sent him a strong warning before he even signed his contract with the club that things could get difficult when he arrives in north London.

And while Ramsdale admits he arrived at the club expecting to be behind Leno in the pecking order, Arteta also urged him to “try to shake up the dressing room” and prove himself.
