Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s approach to protecting his young players paid off as the Gunners fought their way back into the top four of the Premier League.
Their bid to qualify for next season’s Champions League suffered a setback last month as the Gunners recorded back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace, Brighton and then Southampton. But after the Southampton defeat, Arteta was open about who should take the blame to protect the young players in his team.
It comes as technical director Edu has explained why the Gunners want to sign Bologna full-back Aaron Hickey. And Ian Wright has already told his former club why they need to beat Chelsea to sign Crystal Palace youngster Michael Olise.

Wright explains the need for Olise to sign
Arsenal icon Ian Wright has already explained why his former club need to beat Chelsea to sign Michael Olise.
The France youth international could be on his way out of Crystal Palace this summer just a year after his £8million arrival from Reading. He has reportedly included a £35million release clause in his contract at Selhurst Park, with Arsenal and Chelsea both said to be keen to consider a move this summer.

Hickey transfer explained
Arsenal’s alleged attempt to sign full-back Aaron Hickey from Bologna has already been explained by technical director Edu.
Mikel Arteta’s side could reportedly add Hickey to their ranks this summer as the Gunners boss looks to further deepen his defensive positions. The move would be similar to Arsenal’s purchase last summer of Nuno Avares, who was hired as an understudy to Kieran Tierney.
And after that signing, Edu explained that the player’s age was part of the strategy as it meant the player didn’t take any of the non-native player spots in Arsenal’s 25-man Premier League squad because he was under 21, football .london reports.

Arteta approach is rewarded
Mikel Arteta’s comments after Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat by Southampton last month seem to have paid off.
