Mikel Arteta reviews Newcastle’s defeat
Granit Xhaka’s post-match interview following the Newcastle United defeat was called “very strange” by Gunners icon Ian Wright.
The Gunners went into Monday night’s Premier League clash at St James’ Park knowing that a win would put them on pole position to take a place in the top four ahead of arch-rivals Tottenham when they beat arch-rivals Tottenham on Sunday face Everton. However, a 2-0 loss to Tyneside means their fate is not in their own hands as Spurs sit two points clear in fourth place with a far better goal difference and a single point at Norwich is likely enough to see them home bring to.
After the game, Xhaka gave a bizarre interview on Sky Sports in which he told his Arsenal team-mates to “stay home” if they were nervous about getting into the Premier League. It comes as Jamie Carragher has identified the big mistake made by Mikel Arteta’s side as they miss out on Champions League qualification.
And famed Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has fallen out with Jeff Stelling over what they believe is the exact reason for Arsenal’s downfall this season.

Xhaka comments hit

In an amazing outburst, the midfielder accused his teammates of not following coach Mikel Arteta’s plans or having the right mentality for the race for the top four. And Wright has now called Xhaka’s tirade “very strange” and said the former Gunners captain will “upset people” with the comments.

Carragher identifies mistakes
Jamie Carragher has identified the fatal mistake that appears to have cost Arsenal a place in next season’s Champions League.
The Gunners are fifth in the Premier League with just one game left. They’re two points behind Tottenham Hotspur despite having a significantly worse goal difference, meaning a draw for Spurs against Norwich will all but seal their place in the top four.
And Carragher says Mikel Arteta’s team “can’t get out of defeats” and have shown “no reaction” to their recent poor performances.
