Arteta provides update on Nketiah’s Arsenal contract negotiations

There’s no escaping the importance of Thursday’s north London derby to Arsenal.

The Gunners travel to Tottenham Hotspur four points clear of their closest rivals in the race for fourth place in the Premier League and know that a win away would be enough to secure a place in the Champions League next season.

For manager Mikel Arteta it is arguably the most significant league game of his tenure and while three points would be wonderful for the team, a draw in their last two games would take matters into their own hands.

mirror sport has the latest preparations for the game as Arsenal look to return to European football’s elite club competition for the first time in five years.

Should Arsenal play for a win or a point at Spurs on Thursday? Let us know in the comments section below!

Tieleman’s challenge in the Champions League

Arsenal’s reported transfer target Youri Tielemans wants to play in the Champions League next season, with a summer move from Leicester City becoming a possibility.

The talented Belgium international has not signed an extension at King Power Stadium, meaning he has just one year left on his contract until the end of the season. As a result, the Foxes could lose him for a knockdown fee in the upcoming window.

Manchester United are said to be interested in Tielemans, although their recent troubles appear to have left them in the running. Arsenal and Tottenham are both battling for a Champions League spot in the final weeks of the season and both have strong ties to the Leicester star.

Arsenal have struggled for depth in central midfield this season, making Tielemans a potentially ideal acquisition.

Mourinho makes Abraham’s admission

Roma manager Jose Mourinho said he would not stand in the way of Tammy Abraham if the club received a big offer for him from a Premier League side.

Arsenal are one of several clubs to have been linked with the England international, who has arrived in the Eternal City following his signing from Chelsea last summer. Roma have reportedly valued Abraham at £67.5million and Mourinho admitted the path is there for him to return to the Premier League. However, the Portuguese said he doesn’t think the forward is ready to return just yet.

“He chose that option and I think he did it by trusting me and I think at this moment if he wants to come back to England – I don’t think he wants it now – but if he wants to come back to England he just has to snap his fingers.”

Seville wants Pepe

Nicolas Pepe is reportedly a target for Sevilla in the summer.

Pepe is the Gunners’ record signing at £72m and came to much fanfare from Lille in the summer of 2019 after shining in Ligue 1. However, the winger has struggled for consistency and regular football, with Bukayo Saka emerging as Arsenal’s best option on the right flank.

The 26-year-old feels a long way from the starting XI as such and with two years left on his contract at the end of the season it wouldn’t come as a huge shock if he were to move on.

Sevilla are said to have already reached out to Arsenal about the availability of the Ivory Coast international, although they are reportedly willing to play hardball if a fee for the striker is at stake.
