The YELLOW card given to Arsenal star Granit Xhaka is at the center of a betting poll.
Midfielder, 29, was booked to buy time in the 88th minute of a Premier League match.
The FA says bookmakers have alerted them to suspicious betting patterns surrounding the incident and that they will look into the matter. There is no investigation on any of the players.
Xhaka was cautioned by referee Andre Marriner for delaying taking a free kick during Gunners 4-1 win over Leeds on 18 December.
A video circulating online shows Xhaka being urged by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and his introducer to take the free kick.
Bookmakers were alerted after a pup placed £65,000 on him when placed in the game, winning a payout of £250,000.
A betting source said: “This bet has been flagged to all the bookies, because it was too big and it paid out. The investigation is looking at the bet rather than Xhaka’s conduct —– it’s not unusual for him to be gambled. ”
The Switzerland international misses today’s Premier League clash with Burnley after being shown a red card in the Carabao Cup against Liverpool.
He picked up 46 yellow cards and four red cards in his 171 Premier League matches.
Arsenal declined to comment.
Brentford’s Premier League game against Wolves was halted for nearly 20 minutes yesterday due to an “unofficial drone” flying over the stadium in West London.
The police have been alerted
