Mikel Arteta does not have many more reliable heads in the squad than Kieran Tierney, who has become one of the poster boys for the revolution at the Emirates.

The Scottish left-back has been an almost ever-present in recent weeks as arsenal clambered into the top four. Tierney has helped to make sure up what was an extremely shaky backline, and become a leadership figure in a side that’s been crying out for authority for years.

However, Tierney’s immense form has attracted the attention of real Madrid, reports from Scotland claim. According to The Sunday Postthe La Liga giants are weighing up a £50million bid for Tierney as they seek a long-term replacement for Marcelo.

Purely in terms of footballing ability, Arsenal will do well to find a better left-back on the market for that £50m price tag. But it is his influence in the squad that seems to make Tierney such an indispensable member of Arteta’s squad.

Tierney can regularly be seen barking orders to players more senior than himself, having seemingly been given a senior position in the squad. Yet the Scot is still only 24 and not even three seasons in to his time at Arsenal.

Tierney can regularly be seen barking orders to players more senior than himself, having seemingly been given a senior position in the squad. Yet the Scot is still only 24 and not even three seasons in to his time at Arsenal.

The Gunners did well to keep his initial price tag as low as £25m when they picked him up from Celtic back in 2019. And the offer from Real Madrid would represent a fantastic profit if they wanted to cash in on Tierney. But Arteta is unlikely to even consider letting the Scotland go internationally, and rightly so.

Scotland legend Pat Nevin seems to think that Tierney may need to part ways with Arsenal to take his game to the next level though. “Kieran’s been linked with Real Madrid, and I’m convinced he would have no problem fitting in there,” said the former Chelsea wingers

“He’s good enough to join any club in the world, and hit the ground running. “Andy Robertson is a fabulous full-back, so I’m not criticizing him in any way when I say that Kieran is the better all-round player of the two.

“It’s probably the first time since Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness in the 1980s that we’ve had two Scots capable of playing for the best teams around.”
