Artists Against Homelessness – Moxie, Dervish and Pauline Scanlon among acts performing at a concert this summer

The Sunday Independent’s Artists Against Homelessness in aid of Focus Ireland is taking place in Sligo this summer.

he show promises to be a great night, with music from Moxie, Dervish, Pauline Scanlon, Honas and Seba Safe coming out to play a very special live performance.

Curated by Moxie and helping homelessness across the country, the night will take place on June 17th.

Sligo musician and founding member of alternative folk band Moxie, Ted Kelly, said when he returned home to live in Sligo in 2019, he noted that the levels of homelessness had “just gotten worse and worse”.

“More and more empty shop doors are filled with sleeping bags, O’Connell Street is busier than ever with people begging for their basic human rights. It’s a terrible situation,” he said.

“I feel obligated to do something to improve this situation. Moxie Dervish, Pauline Scanlon, Seba Safe and Sligo Native Honas have offered their artistry to raise money for Focus Ireland to improve the homeless situation in Sligo. Please come and buy a ticket to support a good cause on June 17th at Model, Sligo.”

Focus Ireland’s chief executive officer said the charity needed continued fundraising as the number of homeless people increased across the country.

Pat Dennigan said the concert will provide an opportunity to raise awareness of the issue.

“As a proud Sligo man, it gives me great pride to see how much our services have evolved locally over the past 16 years. Services offered include rental support and maintenance, advisory and information services, long-term assisted living and short-term assisted living,” he said.

“I’m proud that Focus Ireland staff across the country and in Sligo have been working harder than ever to help our service users since the pandemic.”

The concert will take place on June 17th at The Model Arts in Sligo. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets cost €20 each and are available from www.themodel.ie
