As Battlefield 2042 players search for a route, DICE is talking about lore

Battlefield 2042 DICE developer started the new year with an unusual post on Twitter. Next a disappointing debut, 2021 ends with a hopeful note for the game full of difficulty, after the studio quick deployment of four patches to solve some of the main problems.

As DICE and much of the world went on holiday, many of the core design issues of Battlefield 2042 emerged and became the biggest points of discussion. Although a a free weekend and sales practically everywhere, the game continues to lose players. At some point, Battlefield 5 has more active players on Steam compared to the latest game.

All of this has left the community frustrated waiting for some communication from DICE on how or indeed if the studio plans to address the game’s long list of problems. But no one expected the first official message to be about, well, lore!

The official Battlefield Twitter account posted a new entry to World of Battlefield, a series of articles recounting the events that led to the main conflict in the game, helping to define the world and its fiction.

This latest post appears to be showing an environment that is not currently in the game and could be seen as a trailer for a new map. While not necessarily limited to in-game maps, most of those lore articles revolve around existing locations in some way.

Unfortunately, this isn’t exactly what players were hoping to see, which highlights an issue in EA and DICE’s chosen form of communication. While it’s unrealistic to expect a solid roadmap or even news of upcoming content earlier this year, it would have been better if the first announcement included more solid information.

However, EA and DICE know they have a lot of ground to make up for in 2022 if Battlefield 2042 has any future.
