Special “Fliegerkommandos” are set up by the police to take action against trouble spots.

The units, called Kestrel teams, are tasked with combating drug trafficking, auto crime, and other antisocial behavior.

Unlike conventional bobbys on the street, the flying squads are parachuted into communities to help fight the crime wave.

They can knock on doors and search for wanted suspects, arrest county line drug dealers, and conduct public police events.

The units were developed by Suffolk Police and are supported by Police Minister Kit Malthouse.

The teams seized £33,000 worth of drugs, arrested 66 people, filed 2,221 intelligence reports and conducted 1,103 hours of patrolling at hotspots in the year to last September, Suffolk Police said.

Det Supt David Giles, of Suffolk Police, said: “They have the freedom to move to different places to address community issues, engage with communities and move in an adaptable and dynamic way.

“You could be in one city one day and another the next.”

Mr Malthouse said fighting crime involves focusing on types of crime, specific criminals and geography.

He added, “When you combine all three…you often get excellent results.”
