ASDA security guard Pete has gone viral on social media after spotting a shiny object on the floor next to the tills – which turned out to be a Rolex watch
An ASDA security guard who found a customer’s £40.00 Rolex watch has gone viral – after sharing what he did with the expensive watch.
A grateful customer breathed a sigh of relief after security guard Pete, 60, of Asda Living Wrekin Park store in Telford, found and saved his 60-year-old Rolex after losing the watch at the checkout.
Hayley, the store’s replenishment manager, said: “Pete looked at his monitors and saw something shiny on the floor by the tills – and it turned out to be a Rolex watch.
“The gentleman later called the store to see if anyone had turned it in and when Pete told him he had found it the gentleman got emotional and couldn’t believe it. Manchester evening news reports.
“He was distraught because the watch held so many special memories for him and it had been given to him over 60 years ago.
“He came to the store to pick it up and was so grateful to Pete when he thought it was lost forever.”
Pete has now been nominated for an Asda Service Superstar Award, with Hayley saying: “Pete is a very kind hearted colleague who is very old fashioned. He will do anything for customers and colleagues.”
Shoppers have now rushed to praise Pete, as Joyce Rogers-Keen wrote: “God bless you for being so honest and caring man I hope you have a wonderful happy life, people like you are few , and these days you have made the gentleman a very happy man meant so much to him.”
Helen Dulson said: “So amazing to hear such a wonderful story, I hope he was rewarded for his kindness. Well done it makes you think there are some good people out there.”
Jennifer Finlay commented: “Well done Pete. It’s nice to see that there are still honest people in the world. I can imagine the Lord’s feelings upon hearing that it had been found. God bless you.”
Gil Ward agreed with Jennifer: “‘Old School’ is nothing like it, respect and caring for others second to none.”
And Linda Hawkes exclaimed, “Well done Pete, nice to know there are still some honest people in the world.”
Jan Ryan added: “Glad Pete had eagle eyes and spotted the watch. A small act of kindness and honesty costs nothing and brings a lot. Big up Pete. What a man.”
