Ashanti confirms Nelly reunion with VMAs fashion statement

Ashanti is ready to flaunt her relationship with her friend Nelly.

While she walked the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet alone on Tuesday, the R&B singer still found a nice way to have her significant other by her side.

Ashanti looked smitten as she carried a compact clutch that featured a photo of the couple from the early 2000s on the front.

Pairing her personalized accessory with an equally eye-catching outfit, the “Foolish” singer wore a rhinestone-encrusted dress with a dramatic cutout at the front that revealed a bejeweled bra shaped like two turtles.

While during the VMAs pre-show, Nelly helped start the evening with Ashanti’s performance of his 2002 banger “Hot In Here.” raved about her partner on the red carpet.

“We’re in a great situation, everything is positive, we’re having a lot of fun,” she told People magazine.

After months of flirtatious public appearances Together, Nelly confirmed that he and Ashanti were indeed back during an interview on Philo TV’s “Boss Moves” show, which came out on Monday.

“Yeah, we’re cool again,” he said. “We’re cool again. However, I think it surprised both of us. It wasn’t anything that I don’t think was planned. I think we’ve both largely done what we do. But sometimes you understand each other better when you’re apart.”

Months ago, Nelly said Entertainment Tonight He had rekindled his friendship with his then ex.

“Time works wonders on a lot of different things,” he explained. “And time is one of those things that gives you the time to think about what is and gives you the chance to see things in a different light and recognize your mistakes. I think we both did that and it’s cool that we’re just friends.”

Ashanti and Nelly began dating in 2003 after meeting at a Grammy Awards. The “Body On Me” collaborators spent the next decade dating on and off until they finally split in 2013.

Ashanti spoke about feeling “betrayed” by the “Country Grammar” rapper during an interview Interview 2015 on The Meredith Vieira Show, where she said, “I think sometimes when people have their own insecurities, it allows them to act outside of their character. I was cheated on.”

“Again, you just have to grow,” she continued. “You have to grow up and take responsibility for the things you do. I’m not a big fan of people being cowards. I think it’s really important to know yourself and understand what you want and get it. I’m in a different place right now.”
