Ashling Murphy described as ‘the light of our lives’ by family heartbroken by funeral

TRAGIC Ashling Murphy has been described by her family as “the light of our lives” ahead of her funeral tomorrow.
Murdered teacher’s heartbroken sister Amy paid tribute to the famous Offaly woman on the eve of Mass.
Amy said: “Ashling is the light of our lives and the heart of our family.
“Sadly, we will put her to rest tomorrow, Tuesday, January 18.
“The obligatory Mass will take place at St. Brigid, Mountbolus at 11 a.m. Her ceremony will be broadcast on the RTÉ 1 TV channel and will also be broadcast live. ”
The Irish Sun understands that plans have been made for a special musical performance for Ashling as she is laid to rest at Lowertown Cemetery, Mountbolus.
The talented musician has played fiddles and tin whistles and has recently used a uilleann pipe.
The Murphy family this evening encouraged mourners to take part in a musical tribute to the astute fiddle player.
Amy said: “Our family is pleased to ask that any musicians in attendance please bring their instruments and play music at the Lowertown cemetery after mass if you wish.
“We greatly appreciate privacy from the media at this time.
“Ar dheis De go raibh a hanam dilis.”
The 23 years old – who fought bravely in a frenzied attack by a stranger – lost her fight for her life last Wednesday after she was targeted in a random attack at the canal bank in Cappincur, Tullamore.
Meanwhile, former assistant gardening commissioner Pat Leahy urged witnesses to come first.
He told Claire Byrne on RTE One: “The gardener is asking if anyone has a bit of information that is uncomfortable with them to share it with.
“Think broadly, because there are very specific requirements being put in place, don’t be deterred by that, do whatever it takes.
“Every line of investigation must be pursued. They are asking for more help from the community, that’s what they should do and what the community should do right now. ”
