Mila Kunis was born and raised in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, which was part of the Soviet Union until 1991. The actress and her parents, along with her brother, moved to America when she was 7 years old.
Ashton Kutcher has spoken out in support of his wife Mila Kunis’ homeland of Ukraine after Russian forces invaded the country.
The 44-year-old actor took to social media to give his voice in the face of a growing number of famous faces speaking out about the escalating crisis and shared a poignant post on Twitter.
“I stand with Ukraine,” he tweeted.
He also shared a photo of the Ukrainian flag.
Actress Mila was born and raised in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, part of the Soviet Union until 1991.
She moved with her parents Elvira and Mark, along with brother Michael, to the US when she was 7 years old, and she has previously talked about what life was like growing up in the now-defunct Soviet Union.
“My parents both had great jobs, and I was very lucky. We are not poor living in Russia, on the contrary most people are very unlucky,” the Black Swan star told the Daily Telegraph in 2011.
She said her mother, a primary school teacher in Ukraine, and her father, a mechanical engineer, “gave up good jobs and non-transferable degrees” when they came to the US.
“We went to New York on Wednesday and by Friday morning, my brother and I were at school in LA,” recalls Mila.

The actress and mother of two also talked about her sheltered life under the Soviet regime, and said for the first time in her life she saw a black man at the US embassy in Moscow.
She told W magazine in 2011: “All I know are white people with blonde hair, brown hair and sometimes red hair.
“You were never really taught anything else. He explained to me that there are people in this world with different skin colors. When I was seven and a half years old, I asked him, “Does that mean there are purple people in the world?”, she shared.
Mila and Ashton first met on the set of That 70s Show in 1998, and her first kiss was with her future husband during a scene between their characters Jackie Burkhart and Michael Kelso.
In 2011, Ashton split from wife Demi Moore, while Mila ended a nine-year relationship with Macaulay Culkin, and the former co-stars reunited at the Golden Globes in January 2012.
The soon-to-be-loved couple began dating and went public with their relationship in April of that year, but kept it a secret for months.
Two years later, they got engaged and in September 2014, their first child – daughter Wyatt – was born.
The notoriously private couple got married in July 2015 and welcomed son Dimitri a year later.
