This isn’t necessarily as alarming as it sounds.

For example, if you take a photo via Instagram to share with friends, the app needs this permission to use your camera.

However, some apps make questionable requests that may not make any sense.

You can see which apps on your device have permission for each type.

lockdown mode

Android has its own lockdown mode – not to be confused with Apple’s hardcore lockdown mode on iPhone.

The Android version blocks all biometric and voice security features, like face unlocking or fingerprint unlocking.

The only option is the traditional passcode or a pattern lock.

It is intended for whenever you are concerned that someone might use your face or fingerprint to secretly unlock your devices while you sleep or by force.

To activate it, just press the power button as if you were turning off your phone.

And you should see Lockdown mode listed.

Apparently it’s not automatically enabled on Samsung devices – so you’ll have to go into settings and explore lockdown mode instead.

guest mode

If you’re feeling a little weird about someone possibly looking at your private information while you hand over your phone, there’s a tool that can help.

It’s been around for a while and it’s simply called Guest Mode.

When it’s on, the person can access apps as usual, but certain things like text messages and photos will be blocked.

Go to settings and search system.
